ABSTRACT:
“Curiosity” is an inherent and important quality of human nature. Based on which human spiritual and physical development becomes possible. The history of human race has been changing time and time again. It has undergone changes especially as a result of economic, social, and political revolutions. In all these revolutions, the contribution of two major revolutions has been important in changing the manner, style, and approach of human society. There are two such revolutions that have radically changed the pattern of human life, one is the industrial revolution and the other is the communication revolution. The breadth of these two revolutions or the extent of their influence may be different but these two revolutions have had a radical impact on human society. The resulting social and economic changes are different in each country.
The present age is known as the age of knowledge and information. Mass media has affected the people of every society to such an extent that it is difficult to imagine how the society would be without it. Mass media such as newspapers, magazines, magazines, pamphlets, radio, books, films, television, smart phones and internet etc. have made a profound impact on human life today. Modern mass media have reached a wider audience than traditional media. People get so much information through mass media that as a result the present age is called the knowledge age. Information travels from one corner of the world to another in the blink of an eye. The era of globalization has complemented these two.
KEYWORDS: Mass media, globalization, mass society, industrial revolution, communication revolution, mechanical technology, monopoly
Preface :-
Mass media has played an important role as a factor in the effects of globalization. These media have not only had local but also global impacts. Like the story of how the elephant feels to the five blind men about the effects of these media on what and how they have affected the world, these media have affected the cultural exchange activities of the world and these media still rule the fields like social life, economic life, political life, technology, global migration, world trade, consumerism and consumerism etc. As these media bring people closer together, mass media has brought the world closer. The mass media is responsible for the talk of global village, global city. Traveling the world takes many days and a lot of money, but the internet connects you to the world instantly. Places can be searched, information can be obtained and that too is possible at home. These mediums not only deal with global affairs but also create effects on the world. These effects are also not sudden but the impact of media is like a process and has effects on different sectors. The extent and variety of the effects it has had on the world varies but no country is immune to the effects of the media.
Impact on Indian society:
Globalization is the process of increasing interdependence, distance relations and integration of different countries in their economies, societies and peoples. In which the event in one part of the world affects the people living in the other part of the world. Thus globalization has a positive and negative effect on the social, economic, cultural and political affairs of any country in the long run.
Positive impact of globalization:
As a positive effect of globalization, the economic effects have weakened the caste system in India due to the spread of education and liberal ideas. Inter-caste marriages have become common, and are gradually being accepted.
Due to increasing urbanization and industrialization, people are migrating from rural areas to cities, thereby increasing the socio-economic impact on the poor-backward disadvantaged groups and improving the quality of life of the people.
The proportion of youth in India's total population is highest for whom education and employment opportunities have increased.
As new opportunities are created for women in socio-economic fields, they have become self-reliant. Due to the propagation of liberal ideas, women are becoming aware of their rights.
Due to globalization, the development of technology has made devices like mobile, internet, computer accessible. Through it, people of different societies have been able to connect with each other virtually. And can express their thoughts on different issues. Globalization has affected Indian culture in various ways. For example, Indian yoga and Ayurvedic systems of medicine have gained global acceptance. Different elements of Indian folk culture like Garba of Gujarat, Bandhni of Rajasthan, Vaishnavism as God form etc. are attracting people at international level.
Negative effects of globalization:
Joint family system which is the main feature of Indian society is declining in importance and nuclear family system has developed.
Flat colors and rushed lifestyles in the cities have reduced interpersonal relationships and intimacy and created an atmosphere of mistrust.
Live in relationship increasing divorce rate is also the effect of globalization on Indian society.
Decrease in social relations leads to increased incidence of mental illness and suicide among people.
The amount of addiction like drugs, cigarettes, alcohol among the youth has increased and juvenile and juvenile delinquents have also increased.
From the economic point of view, class differences have increased in the society. Because some special organs of the society are benefiting more from the rains, while the condition of the marginalized sections is further reduced. Globalization has given birth to a consumerist culture that has led to an equally heavy use of natural resources. Which in a way has created a feeling of dissatisfaction in the society.
Effects on the world economic system:
The development of mass media improved the economic condition of the world. Globalization, liberalization and privatization in India in particular have definitely improved India's weak economy. International trade has been accelerated by the Internet and mass media. The media informed about the high production volume and fast production process. Public media has given the information in which industry and in which sector capital investment will be beneficial. The information about which sector has more consumption of products and what will be its demand situation in the future is also available through mass media. On what basis the manufactured goods will be sold in the market, why that is also known only through the mass media. Where to get workers, workers, experts? How qualified will you get? How many skilled men will be required? Things like industrial machinery and its design management etc. can be obtained through mass media even today. There has been a change in the economic system as information is available in all these areas. Today globalization is seen on the economy like every sector with things like capitalist thinking, capitalist class, consumerism, knowledge, intellectual property etc. Today the economy of every country is undergoing drastic changes. Mass media is responsible for it.
Effects on world political life:
Today, media such as television and the Internet provide live broadcasts of political events taking place in the world and their effects on society. It gives information about the rival policy of neighboring countries and enemy countries, trade policy political visits, future plans, world summits, mutual aid, foreign policy etc. Due to the contact of these media, different countries are connected with each other. Also the media has done the job of reducing the influence of the world superpowers. The work of conveying the voice of the people in a country to the world through movement, the policies and programs of national parties, human rights, environment, etc., have been influenced by the mass media. It is the media that awakens national awareness and enthusiasm for participation in the countries of the world. It is said about a communist country like China that no national matters can come out over the wall of China but mass media has proved that nothing is impossible for mass media.
Effects on World Technology:
Mass media has had a global impact on both mechanical technology and information technology. In this way, it can be said that the foundations of globalization were laid with the Industrial Revolution. Because new inventions, research and rapid process of production etc. led to internal and technological development. But in the age of media it is only the media that informs the world about the best technology and its use. Today, information like production of various machines, their use, market, production process, price of production cost etc. is available on the internet. Starting from the making of bombs, information about secret policy i.e. monopoly is also available from the Internet, as information about technology will be given through the media, global crime will also increase. For example, the crime in the practice of e-banking is also the effect of the media, on the other hand, its benefits are also many.
Effects on World Trade:
The foundation of economic globalization is international trade. Businesses work to connect producers living in geographically remote areas to consumers. Such information is provided by groups. Business has started to be done in the international market through the information of how much is produced in which country. Some multinational companies have branched out over different products. For example, McDonald's, a fast food company, has opened thousands of branches outside of the United States. Two-thirds of its branches are in foreign countries. Such companies are also promoted by the media. Today, international division of labor has also started in business. Viable companies of the countries of the world use their own brand and order small and large spare parts from small companies of different countries and also get their connection and assembly done by others and sell the goods. Such information is also available through mass media.
Epilogue:
Globalization is a double-edged sword. We see the positive and negative effects of which. And it is also a reality. Which has been fully accepted by understanding. Mass media is an integral part of our daily life. Only through efforts at the level of NGOs, community organizations and individuals, including policy efforts, can the negative effects be reduced, and efforts can be made to maximize the positive impact on Indian society. In short it can be said that mass media has itself become global rather than it has contributed to globalization.
